Holly Warnet

Relapse

Holly managed to get through until October (the week of her 19th birthday) when she came down with what looked like the flu. She was in bed for a week. When she felt better we went to the Children's Hospital again for her check up and blood test. The blood test came back funny and the doctors questioned it. Holly told them that she had the flu and the doctors were satisfied with that. (We didn't know at the time that this was the first sign of a relapse.) She started to have bad backaches; the doctors (now she had 3 different ones) wouldn't give her anything for them because she was pregnant, so she suffered through them. The baby (Kaitlyn) was born a month early because of the cancer. Kaitlyn was fine but Holly was getting more and worse backaches. Then, just after Christmas she showed me she had lumps in her neck again. Because of all the snow that year we couldn't get to Children's Hospital until the middle of January. The blood tests were done and another biopsy was done and she was confirmed to have relapsed.

My husband and I knew that we both needed to help each other so we agreed to try again. He moved back in the beginning of February.

Holly was sent to Fox Chase for treatment because they were trying something new and different for Lymphoma patients. She finally got some painkillers for her back. We filled her prescription and a week later half of it was gone. This is when Holly realized that one of her brothers was doing drugs. She confronted him first. Holly's brother was put into a drug program. Now I was running back and forth to the hospital with Holly, going to drug counseling with my son and trying to take care of a baby also.

My husband was good. We put all our differences behind us and we worked together. He was taking our son to drug counseling, taking Kaitlyn to the babysitters, picking her up and watching her until I got home. When Holly was in the hospital for the weekend my husband would do everything.
