TOMS RIVER — Portions of the northern section of Dover Township were without water for about two hours Monday night, resulting in reduced fire protection capabilities.
"It was a scary couple of hours," said Township Council President Gregory P. McGuckin yesterday. Water pressure was not available in the area from 7 to 9 p.m.
McGuckin and Dover Township Police Chief Michael Mastronardy activated the township's Office of Emergency Management. They also notified United Water of Toms River, which supplies water to the area.
United Water officials went to their own offices and not the OEM offices, he said, adding that may have been due to miscommunication.
"We went to meet them," he said. "We really needed to have answers and we had to go search for them."
