TOMS RIVER
On behalf of Dover Township (Township), Dan Raviv Associates, Inc. (DRAI) has prepared this update concerning the Remedial Investigation (RI) currently being performed at the Dover Township Sanitary Landfill.
(1) The Interim Remedial Investigation Report (IRIR) was submitted by DRAI, on behalf of Dover Township, to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) on October 2, 1998. The IRIR summarized field investigations performed by the Township in June-July 1998, provided an over-view of previous activities conducted at the landfill and adjacent areas and recommended new permanent monitoring well locations. Results of the field investigation indicated low levels of benezene in several ground water samples and one hit of chlorobenzene above their respective Ground Water Quality Standards. The contaminants detected and their concentrations correlate with historical sampling results from the existing monitoring network at the site.
(2) A meeting was held on January 5, 1999 between representatives of the NJDEP, Dover Township, Union Carbide and DRAI to discuss NJDEP's comments on the IRIR.
(3) NJDEP recently advised DRAI that additional monitoring wells will be required to confirm the lack of significant impact to ground water quality. A total of 10 new wells will be installed, bringing the total number of permanent monitoring wells to 16. DRAI's proposed plan to address the NJDEP's latest requirements is currently being reviewed by the NJDEP. It is anticipated that the NJDEP will complete their review by early March 1999.
(4) It will take approximately 6 weeks to initiate fieldwork once the NJDEP completes their review. All the wells will be sampled for a broad suite of constituents, including the santrimer. A final RI Report is currently anticipated in December 1999.
